Pensacola Christian College has enjoyed a professional relationship with the
key personnel of Hewes & Company, LLC while these individuals were with
other companies. We have worked with Ed Hewes, Carl Kane, and Max
Saam on a variety of projects over the years, some as far back as 1990.
Hewes & Company, LLC has just finished our latest project, the Renovation
of Rawson Chapel and Rawson Center. They are currently working on two
other projects, the Food Service Warehouse Freezer Addition and the
Primary Distribution Building, which are in stages of completion. Even
though Hewes & Company, LLC is a new company, the key personnel have
carried over the same honesty, integrity, and high quality organization the
college has come to expect.
Thus far, completed projects were completed on schedule with attention to
detail and quality. Unexpected issues were addressed promptly and matters
resolved as construction progressed.

Pensacola is a wonderful city with many great assets and a very bright future. The city
has grown steadily and is on the verge of many great projects. Ed Hewes has been an
integral part of the growth of Pensacola from the start of his career.
After his graduation from Auburn University with a degree in Building Construction, Ed
went to work for a well known Pensacola construction firm, Dyson Construction. When
Dyson was acquired by Opus in 1982, Ed became an integral part of the Opus team.
During his career with Opus that spanned almost 30 years, Ed supported Opus operations
throughout the Southeast and rose to head the Pensacola office as General Manager. Opus
was known for constructing many Pensacola landmarks, including the award winning
campus of Pensacola Christian College. Most of these projects were led by Ed Hewes.
My direct business involvement with Ed started over 6 years ago, when my company,
Avalex Technologies Corporation, sought to create a new corporate headquarters in
downtown Pensacola. Our company worked closely with Ed and his team at Opus to
devise a building that would provide new, fresh space for our company and provide a
new technology look to downtown Pensacola. Unfortunately, that effort was not
successful, although I came to understand the great value of a trusted, thoroughly
knowledgeable construction professional.
Recently, our company has teamed with AppRiver to build a new 80,000 square foot
building in the heart of Gulf Breeze, Florida. This $10,000,000 project is a large
undertaking for our two companies. I recommended that as we began planning the project
that we retain Ed Hewes because of his great depth of knowledge, his long history of
successful projects and most importantly the tremendous trust that I developed in him on
our previous efforts.
Trust is crucial. Having a company that you can trust as a partner in an unfamiliar area is
invaluable. AppRiver and Avalex agreed that we understood our own businesses well, but
that we needed someone that we could trust to advise us about our construction plans
during the feasibility stage. Ed Hewes with Hewes and Company provided those services
and gave us guidance in making critical decisions.
As our project progressed, it was time to select a General Contractor to move our plans
forward. Our group voted and unanimously selected Ed Hewes because of his knowledge,
experience and the trust we developed in his guidance.
Unequivocally, I would recommend Ed Hewes with Hewes and Company for any
construction project. They have shown numerous times their flexibility, ingenuity and
foresight on our different construction efforts. Earlier, I mentioned that trust is very
important in a construction partner. Integrity is the other ingredient that cements the
bond in a business relationship. Without question, I feel that Ed and his company have
the highest integrity, which is critical in a large financial investment.
In summary, I feel that Ed Hewes and Hewes and Company represent the best in all
General Contractor services in the area. Integrity and trust, along with critical decision
making and experience are what they will bring to your project.
